We perceive the act of perceiving itself as a passive and intuitive activity. But thanks to the works of many recent philosophers and scientists, we know that perception is a very complex and interpretative process that involves many layers, including the personal historical background. Many recent art works, especially the installations, try to build immersive perceptual environments that, through the implication of the physical body of the viewer, produce “experiences” in the audience. Those works challenge the esthetic criteria of the conceptual art, and urges for the definition of a new esthetics related to this approach.
